Maile's First Movie

Maile's short attention span has been well-documented. Like a lot of kids her age, at least we think and hope that a lot of them are like her, it's only a matter of seconds before she moves on to the next activity, next song, next toy, next anything else.

We figured that it would take years before she could sit and watch a movie straight through. As I've pointed out before though, Maile surprises us every day and apparently movies are no exception.

Maile sat and watched Monsters, Inc. in its entirety. She stayed in the same room throughout and glanced away from the TV less than her parents, who spent much of the movie watching Maile's attentiveness to the movie and the facial expressions that ensued.

We started the movie at about 8:00 at night, which is about the time she goes to bed, thinking that she might at least get to watch 15 minutes of it. Fifteen minutes turned to 30, which then turned to an hour, and then ended up being the rest of the movie. Though it ended past her bedtime, we didn't want to bother her because she was so interested in the movie and we were amazed at how long she was lasting and how interested she was.

In regards to Monsters, Inc., we're not sure what it is about the movie. Perhaps it's the 3D animation that resembles Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, her favorite TV show. Maybe it's because there's a big fuzzy character in Sully or a character that looks like a big green eye ball in Mike. It could even be that she was intrigued by Boo, who she has been compared to by many of you, as well as many non-readers of this blog, such as a random stranger at a local gelato hotspot and countless others.

Whatever the reason, Maile surprised us yet again by sitting through an entire movie past her bedtime. It probably won't surprise us when her next word is Mike Wazowski.
