The Greatest Story Never Told

It is often said that children are life's little miracles. Mindy and I couldn't agree more.

Two years ago at about this time, Mindy had this weird feeling and thought that there might be a chance that she was pregnant. At this point, she had already had two recent miscarriages, with the most recent one just about a month earlier.

The other problem was that she was in the middle of having her period. While it is still possible to have your period during pregnancy (so we've heard and read), it also isn't very common. So coupling the period with the recent multiple miscarriages, we basically shrugged it off.

Mindy took the test anyway though we figured it was unlikely. While we waited a couple of minutes, we figured that even if it was a positive reading, it could end up being a false reading or the situation could also end as it did the previous two times. Needless to say, Mindy was just taking the test just to know.

When the time came to read the result, it came out positive. Mindy and I looked at each other and thought "now what" and "let's see where this ends up", considering the past history and the fact that her period was here.

During that moment, we realized that the song playing in our room was "Ave Maria", as sung by Rachael Lampa on my Christmas album that featured multiple Christian artists. We thought and reflected on the fact that a song written about the blessed mother happened to be playing in the background as we pondered the current situation.

Whether it was just a coincidence or whether Maile is a product of divine intervention, we'll never know. Whether God or Mary has special plans for her, only time will tell. Regardless, Maile is the greatest gift we could have ever hoped for.
